The Culture Wars continue to catapult former Miss California USA Carrie Prejean to notoriety/fame/martyrhood. Long story short, Prejean was removed from her post for alleged breach of contract. She then signed a book deal to write a memoir called Still Standing, which promises to "rehash the gay marriage controversy that [supposedly] eventually left her tiara-less but a superstar of the right wing."
Now, she is suing pageant officials for "religious discrimination, defamation, public disclosure of private facts, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and negligent infliction of emotional distress." Her attorney in this matter is Charles Limandri, who acted as general counsel for the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) during the Proposition 8 debacle.
NOM has a running meme going on that the LGBT movement, through its incredibly awesome power, is silencing Christians into complacency about Teh Gay Agenda. Prejean's lawsuit plays right into that message. It validates the beliefs of anti-gay individuals, especially those who are Christians, who believe that it is they who are the persecuted, rather than the persecutors. Being opposed to LGBT rights, they say, is just their "religion" and to criticize their opposition to LGBT rights is "religious persecution."
In other news that is certainly relevant, but conveniently overlooked by NOM, "Prejean was replaced by the Miss California pageant's first runner-up, Tami Farrell. Farrell has also said she believes marriage should be between a man and a woman."
Farrell has retained her crown. In spite of the Incredible Power of The Gay.
